Upper Hutt Multicultural Council is organising a Rangoli Competition for the first time ever. This competition is a part of our beautiful Diwali celebration which is being held on the 30th of October 2021.
Rangoli is an art form originating in South East Asia, in which patterns are created on the floor or tabletop using materials like powdered limestone, red ochre, dry rice flour, coloured sand, quartz powder, flower petals, and coloured rocks. This competition is unique as there are no restrictions on the materials you choose to use! The sky (and your imagination) is the limit!
This is a call to all the creative souls out there to showcase your talent and love for art while also being in to win some cool prizes! Participants will also have an opportunity to work with the Upper Hutt Multicultural Council on the “Rangoli an expression of creativity” project.
This competition is a beautiful way to have some fun whilst preserving the culture of creativity and colour. We look forward to seeing you there!
The registration fee is $10. The competition will take place on 29 August 2021 in WHIRINAKI WHARE TAONGA, previously known as Expressions in Upper Hutt from 2-4 pm. Gold Coin entry for non-participants. Register on www.uhm.org.nz. You can also contact Nabeesa 027-582-1068, Summer: 022-182-1452 or email: administrator@uhm.org.nz
