Wickets tumble at Galle

Norman’s Sri Lanka Diary.

gaalle 1No less than 11 wickets fell in the morning session of day 2 at the Galle international stadium. Amazing collapse from Australia including an unheralded Rangana Herath hat-trick.

A combination of good bowling which did not even include the sensation from Pallekele Sandakan. Herath bowled well in tandem with Perera and took 8 wickets in quick succession. It can safely be called “carnage in Galle”.

Sri Lanka are looking at their most successful test series against Australia since  Sri Lanka was granted test status in 1982. A great effort especially when on paper the Sri Lankan side looked brittle and inexperienced with the bat and ball.galle 2

This is a great thing to see the rather tiny island nation of Sri Lanka raise their flag high with pride once again. There is a feeling around Galle today not unlike the 1996 euphoria of the World Cup.
