Pointless $400k council role paid to sit and watch

Wellington ratepayers are being asked to stump up $392,000 for a new role observing Tiaki Wai, without any formal governance powers. Wellington Ratepayers’ Alliance spokesman James Ross said:

“Wellington City Council should be acting on the Deloitte report and cutting costs, not inventing new ways to waste money. This one pointless role alone will swallow up the entire annual rates bills of 76 Wellington households.”

“Cabinet ministers overseeing multiple Government departments are paid $327,000 a year. How on earth can Wellington City Council justify spending nearly $400,000 on a role which seems to involve little more than watching Tiaki Wai from the sidelines?”
