This year’s show also includes a Highland dancing competition, pony rides, and a ‘big dig’ where the kids can hunt through piles of straw for the chance to win some great prizes. Last but not least, some of the stars of the show will be the super-cute Valais sheep. This friendly breed originated in Switzerland and is a rare sight in New Zealand, but with their shaggy wool and distinctive markings, they never fail to win hearts!https://wairarapanz.com/see-and-do/masterton-a-p-show

Pedal for Parkinson’s is an annual ride that takes in 64km of rugged coastline, taking bikers across river beds, through farmland, and even past the scene of a shipwreck. As well as the full course, there’s also an 18km option that’s equally stunning, tracking past Cape Palliser Lighthouse and Ngawi fishing village. The views are impressive, but don’t mistake this for a leisurely weekend bike ride –  with the challenging terrain and sometimes extreme weather conditions out on the coast, both courses are aimed at experienced mountain bikers. Funds raised go towards supporting the vital work of Parkinson’s Wairarapa.  www.hurihuri.co.nz
